Excellence- My dreams deserve my greatest effort and full attention. Excellence is a product of maximum effort and attention. Manifest excellence through repetition. Practice makes perfect. Attention directed toward critical evaluation of my path plus detailed planning will manifest excellence.

Integrity- Be truthful to myself, first. Be forthright in my communication with others. Be open to different perspectives, but never compromise my principles. Value integrity above any consequences.

Resilient- Fall short until success is achieved. Succeed until a new lesson has to be learned. Adjust plans, but never quit. If, I never give up, how could I ever really lose? Each person, institution, and idea is a work in progress because change is the only real constant.

Patience- My time is valuable, but my self-control is priceless. Be timely, decisive, and enduring. Negativity and ignorance is inherently chaotic and frail when face with clever and persistent effort.

Justice- Seek to understand, confirm, and serve. Be accountable, hold others accountable, and reconcile without prejudice or malice. To err is to be human, to learn is to be divine, and to fear neither is to be wise.

Very interesting take indeed. This guy knows what he's talking about, but as the reporter states he smooths over some critical gaps in his claims. I agree that wealthy risk takers should be rewarded accordingly and do contribute much more than they are acknowledge for. However, disenfranchisement of the 99% is not from the disproportionate rewards to the 1% but because of networks and structural inefficiencies that protect wealth instead of promoting innovation and inclusion.

Conversation at Walgreens

Just left 24 hr Walgreens. One of the manager’s there who is familiar with the topics within my book, struck up a conversation with me. We were talking about how individual choice and laws affect quality of life. In the midst of this lengthy conversation, he says there’s an election coming up and people don’t even know why they are voting. My response was that may be true, but what does the presidential election have to do with making laws.

This manager cited Obamacare as an example of the president making a law. I corrected him by stating that the executive branch has the power to recommend policy. Policy recommendations are very well put together documents that may or may not need tweaking before being enacted. Nevertheless, only the congress can sign a policy into law.

Here’s my thing. No one knows everything and that’s why these conversations are important to the quality of life of Americans. This manager stated that people didn’t understand government well enough to protect their rights as citizens, but he did so to make his own point. However, he spoke as if he believed that Obamacare was a policy passed into law by President Obama. His misunderstanding of the powers of the executive office will play a huge role in how he votes, because it determines his expectations for the President.

Nonetheless, this manager did prove his point that people don’t understand government well enough. I hope that he got my point which is that as long as people have to work incessantly in order to survive, there is no choice between survival and learning more about government; which means an individual’s vote is a function of the commercialized outlook of the media.

What are your thoughts? What powers are vested in the office of the president? What determines your ability to participate in life beyond your job? How do you see these topics as being related?

Life Principles

The following are a few principles that I live by and reflect on daily. I hope that sharing these principles will encourage others to develop and share their own.

Courage- Be calm in the face of danger and encouraged in the face of uncertainty. My confidence is a product of practice, previous achievements, and acquired knowledge. My courage will be unshakeable, because the worst outcome can never be less than a new opportunity.

Discipline- Structure my time and organize my resources in order to be effective with people and efficient in my efforts. Life is organized to perpetuate itself. Life is disciplined in its relentless creation of its imagined self. I will be disciplined in my relentless pursuit of my imagination; my imagined self.
